Maria Schoettler graduated from the University of California, Santa Cruz in 2007 where she received B.A. in Art Practice with an emphasis in painting. In 2007, Maria was the recipient of the prestigious Irwin Scholarship awarded to promising senior Art Majors. Since graduating from college, Maria has immersed herself in the world of early childhood education and has been working at a Montessori School in Oakland, California, where she currently resides.
Today, Maria’s love of portrait painting is alive and well and she has successfully managed to incorporate art- making into the daily grind. Maria currently belongs to a co-operative art studio in Oakland where she is wedged between sculptors and giant globs of clay- both of which only occasionally obstruct her view of the model subject she is painting. Still, Maria finds sustenance amidst the bustle of a shared art space.
